I was born in Teluk Intan hospital on September 29, 1971 by a woman name Aishah Arshaad. My late father was an Islamic religious teacher in Sekolah Menengah Seri Perak at that time. They gave a beautiful name to that child...Mohammad Khatim, which mean "Terakhir yang Terpuji" because they think that I'm their last child (My little sister was born 6 years later).
I was sent to Tadika KEMAS, just near to my house when I was six years old. Then entered Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan St. Anthony at Teluk Intan for my primary school from 1978 until 1983. I gathered 5A for my Peperiksaan Penilaian. This gives me the opportunity to enter boarding school for my secondary studies. I received offers from Sekolah Izzuddin Shah, Sekolah Menengah Sains Teluk Intan (SEMESTI) , Sekolah Menengah Agama Persekutuan LABU and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Perak (SMKAP). I and my father decide to take the offer from SMKAP. The school was located at Rapat Setia, IPOH. The school was than change the name to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Sultan Azlan Shah (SMKASAS) and relocated at Bandar Seri Iskandar, Tronoh, Perak. I did quite well in the school, thus, I was given the chance to enter Pusat matrikulasi Sains Perak (Ipoh) for the first year and Pusat Matrikulasi Sains Kuala Pilah (Kuala Pilah) for second year. I did quite well studying there, thus, I was given the opportunity to pursue my study in UKM Medical faculty at Kuala Lumpur. However, I changed my field of study to Mathematic (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer science). My father passes away when I was in my first semester of study. There, I met the late Prof. Dr. Salleh Sahimi (at that time he is still Assoc. Prof.) and Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Abdullah. They guide me well in my study, thus, I felt in "love" with numerical computing field. That is why I done my final year project in the field of Numerical analysis.
After graduated, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Abdullah invited me to be his research assistant. Then, I decided to further my studies under his supervision. Then I married to a beautiful women name Rini Roslina Amir (an optometrists). I take about 7-9 month to complete my Master study. However need to wait around 7 month for my viva. At the meantime (waiting for my viva), I received offers from Telekom Malaysia (R&D) in Operational Research Lab (located at Ideal Tower, UPM Incubation Centre 1) as a research Officer. My Head of Lab at that time was Mrs. Fauziah Maarof (Now, Dr. Fauziah Maarof). She was a very good leader. After I graduated from my master study, I was offered ( personally) by a deputy dean of Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FTSM) to join FTSM. So, I submit the application form to FTSM and had been called to an interview at FTSM. This was the starting of my life as a government university lecturer (Dec 18, 1998).
My first task was teaching C programming (Lab). After that, I was given tasks to teach statistics, mathematic, and quality related subjects. In June 2004, I went for my PhD in Universiti Putra Malaysia (awarded SLAB study grant from JPA). Then, submit my Thesis for examination in Dec 2007. I was called for my viva on March 2008, and given senate letter (officially pass my PhD) on May 8, 2008. After that I was promoted to Senior lecturer in the faculty.
I had lots of beautiful memories during my studies, even though facing with so many things (feels like "crack" in the brain especially when studying PhD). During my studies (especially PhD), I went to so many conferences (presenting my Ideas) and met so many "academic" friends from all over the world. The experiences are for me too valuable and change me to be more mature in my research and very critical in my thinking.
